Ever feel like taking a break from your normal grind, to just kick back with a cold brew or two, and soak in the salty sea air? Well you're not alone - fishing is a welcome respite for the weary, a good way to unwind and see some sights in Norrath. All you need is a fishing pole, some bait, and you too can enjoy this favorite pastime for so many - so grab your tacklebox, as we explore some of my favorite fishing holes!
Hanging out under the Freeport docks is indeed a bit shady in more ways than one, but occasionally you'll see travelers fall from the sky. Just watch your back, and mind your coin purse. Same could be said of the Qeynos docks, where Trumpy Irontoe sometimes goes to relieve himself or "drain the dragon" as he so nicely puts it. If you're looking for an exotic getaway, Kerra Isle is one of the quietest places to get away from the busy hustle & bustle of Norrath. Butcherblock Mountains is also a popular spot to cast your line - although the dwarves here have a hard time staying alive long enough for a good catch. Barbarians in the Northern Desert of Ro manage to stay cool in the desert heat. The Othmir camp in Cobalt Scar is reknowned for their festive beach life, and the fish highly coveted for their cod oil. While the river in Everfrost is mostly frozen over, there are a few limited spots where you can cast your line. Don't fall in and swim into the seemingly abandoned tunnel... Save tries his hand at catching the infamous land shark, or possibly catching a good deal in the tunnels. Even necromancers in Paineel find time to put down their obsession with raising the dead, to cast their lines in Toxxulia Forest once in a while. Some flock to the lake in West Commonlands to play hooky from their responsibilities. Try giving Mojax a bottle of milk, he's probably parched from fishing all day. Though personally, I prefer to cast my line from this bridge in Rivervale. And the giants of Kael Drakkel also enjoy fishing in their home city, when they're not stomping on trespassers. For some clerics, fishing can relieve the boredom and monotony of constantly healing their needy party members. I don't recommend sitting at the actual docks to fish in the hole, but there is a nice spot near the waterfall to watch the non-stop action. Many gather here to hunt the slippery turtle instead, on this ice floe in Iceclad. If you really want to kick back, look for a boat you can hop into like this one in Qeynos Hills, while keeping your eye out for a stylish barbarian. This inn is probably my #1 fishing spot in Norrath - you can literally fish from your table, and restock or even brew your own beer inside the bar. Proof that you don't need a huge body of water to fish - even this tub inside Kaladim appears to be well-stocked with fish. But you can even fish in an even smaller body of water - such as the entrance to the Qeynos Aqueducts. Surprisingly I have pulled out a number of rusty daggers and fish scales from the lava - maybe one day I'll pull up a nicely charred trout.
